Chapters 1-11
In this part of Genesis we will see humanity breaking faith with the Perfect creator. Life will go from paradise surround by Gods presence in Eden. To a broken world in need of restoration. Yet the moment things were broken God started His greatest work yet. The work of restoring His creation to perfection.
Genesis 11 reveals that the fallen state of mankind has endured through the flood of Noah. This chapter shows the same pride and fear and disobedience of mankind that was there in Noah’s day. Yet it also shows that God is involved in mankind watching over everything. Coming to help those who look to Him and to put a stop to those that go against His Will which leads to blessing for mankind. However we also see that God has the big picture in mind and in control and that He knows the way forward for all of our lives. He asks that we only listen and obey for then we shall know blessing.
God loves to make promises to His people. As He makes promises He also loves to keep them. Gods covenant with Noah was a promise of life to Noah and His family it concerned their future and their obedience to God. However Sin was still part of creation. Now in Christ we have a greater Covenant promise in Jesus Christ. The Covenant man who came to rescue us and give us life.
Genesis 6 to 8 looks at the story of the flood. We see in chapter six just how bad it had got in the world since Adam and Eve left the Garden of Eden. Yet God still found righteousness on the earth in the man Noah, who walked with God as Enoch did. Therefore God saved Noah and His family through the Arc that came as a result of Noah’s obedience. Throughout the story we then see God working with Noah to save Him and His family. Noah’s response was to worship when He came out of the arc. God is still working on the same way. Yet now there is a righteousness available to all who will believe God as Noah did. Yet this present road to righteousness is not with through a large wooden arc but through a wooden cross where Jesus died in order to give life to the many. For in Noah all the world bar one family died. In Christ the one man died that the many could live through faith in the cross of Christ that came about through the righteous obedience of Jesus.

The thought that invaded the walk was a powerful attack on Gods creative design for humanity. We were made to walk with God yet the serpent came and ruined that walk. As Dallas Willard puts it in
Renovation of the Heart; “The serpent did not hit Eve with a stick but with an idea.” This idea deconstructed their vision of God causing them to go their own way which led to the disruption of their relationship with God and one another. Yet our God is always good and He responds to the situation with grace and mercy as He works to restore their walk from brokenness to unity with God. God is still working to restore us to that original walk. However now He has sent Jesus the complete answer to the brokenness we experience. Genesis 3 - 5.

The book of Genesis begins with a statement. Declaring that in the beginning before anything was made God was alive and present and active. Out of Himself He spoke and that which He spoke burst forth into glorious life. Yet He not only created all that we see and know. He sustains all that He made by His powerful Word. The next stage was to give Adam, who was made in the image of God, the gift of a free choice, to either be in relationship with God or to reject His friendship. The next gift was purpose as Adam was given the role of among the animals. Then He was given the gift of community first with God and then with Eve the helper who was created from Adams Rib as an equal partner in Gods creation.
The good news is that in Jesus these three aspects are still on offer to us today.
