Tonight’s sermon brings Johns Gospel to a close. As we remind ourselves of the main narrative in the story we see that there are actually various narratives that are running alongside each other which God in His mercy and grace has bought together to create one perfect melody of grace forgiveness and mercy in creation and in us His people through Jesus Christ our Savioir and Lord.

John 21: 15-25
Jesus has risen from the grave and revealed Himself to His followers already. Yet in this third revelation of the risen Christ we sense a new agenda. An agenda that is reminiscent of the previous encounter when Jesus called His first disciples to follow Him. Yet the agenda has shifted looking forward to a new time when Christ followers would walk in a new mission. For they have followed the incarnate Jesus for three years. Now they will follow the risen Jesus for eternity. Therefore this is a new day for the early disciples but also for us today as followers of Jesus. The question is will we say yes and follow Him in

John 17: 20-26 sees our final sermon on this amazing book that has shown us so much about the person of Jesus Christ. In this final sermon we see the love of Jesus for us and the desire of God throughout the ages. The desire to be present with us in our lives, a desire that is fully seen in Jesus who became human for us that He might bring us back to the God who loves us and desires to know us.

John 17 sees the prayer of Jesus for His followers. For all who believed when He was alive up to the to present day church. His prayer is simple and to the point. That His followers would come to know Him and the Father. For this reality is Eternal Life. The gift of God the Father to all who believe in Jesus. So when we come to prayer let us keep it simple. Let us move away from formulas into relationship.

John 16 v 16-33
Anxiety is part of our lives especially in the west. Does Jesus have anything to offer us in the midst of anxiety? Can He help us when we worry? The answer is Yes, Yes, Yes. He is with us and knows our every thought and speaks into our anxiety with words of life thus giving us the gift of peace and joy. The question is will we listen to His voice rather than the other voices around us.

The following passage in John 16 talks of the work of Holy Spirit in our lives helping us to follow Christ. In this sermon we consider the authentic way of discipleship that can only be attained through the loving work of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our helper says Jesus so let us allow Him to do His work in us this day.

John 15: 18-27
In this passage we see the reality of living for Christ in a world that rejects Jesus and His followers. Yet alongside this Jesus promises to be with us and give us the Holy Spirit to help us. In response to the reality of this challenging passage we realise we must be a people of prayer. For this reason after the sermon we have a time of interactive prayer around various stations. Praying for the world, for our church, for the lost to be saved. That God would use us share His wonderful story in a world full of rejection. Maybe after this sermon spend some time also praying for those various issues that have come to mind during the sermon.

“I am the Vine and you are the branches, as you remain in me you will bear fruit that will last.” These are amazing words that come from our passage today yet have we ever wondered what fruit will come and how we are to grow in that fruit. Jesus tells us the method and the outcome. The question is will we do as He says? Those who say yes will begin a process of developing in Christ a development which will see the reality of His promises taking place in their lives

John 20 verses 11-31
Easter Sunday began with our Sunrise Service at 6:30 was followed by a family service at 11am and now at the close of the day we come to consider what happened when most went home. You see there were three sets of responses to the resurrection. Mary lingered by the grave and met with the compassionate risen Christ. The disciples who left the graveside encountered Christ in their bidding place. Thomas who missed the first encounter in the bidding place had a later encounter in that same room. Yet the response of Jesus to His people never changed. He came to show Himself in love to give them peace and fill them afresh with faith to love and serve Him.

The two disciples ran to the tomb and looked in. Yet it was only as they entered into the tomb that faith rose in their hearts. A faith that enables them to follow their Jesus out of the grave and into the world to tell of the story of their King who died and rose again for them and indeed for the world. Will we be those who firstly enter into Christ death for us and then follow Him out of the grave into the fullness of life? For this is why He did what He did. That we might know life in all its fullness.

Jesus came to rescue us through His life, death and resurrection. This was and is the decisive victory that secured our freedom a wonderful display of Gis grace and power and sovereignty over crration. Yet on the way to the cross He also challenged Pilates view of Kingdom showing a different way in the face of great trial.

The true power in creation.
When Jesus came into our world the true power of creation presented Himself amongst us becoming the true power in every situation and circumstance. In a world fuelled by the economy of power. Where can discover a true wholesome power and how do we love and move in that power? Jesus is the answer to this question and He shows us how at the cross. For true power is the power to serve others that they may be built up in the knowledge of Christ.

In this passage Jesus continues to comfort His disciples. However He is not content to simply help them in that moment. Jesus promises to be with them and help them for ever. To achieve this Jesus is going to send the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of Truth who will take on the baton of Christ’s earthly ministry. Empowering the followers of Jesus to do the things that Jesus did. Namely to reach the lost and build up those who say yes to Jesus that they may learn the truth thy sets them free. That is to love and obey their God and to continue to move forward by faith.

John 14:1-14
In this passage Jesus talks with His disciples about how He will continue His work in the future. For a time is coming when they will not see Him as He is yet He will be just as active working through them by the power of the Holy Spirit. At that time His followers will need to know what it is to pray in the power of His Name for this is how the follower of Jesus must live. In the way that reflects Jesus to the world.
Jesus is the one who comes to saves us and helps us in this life. His help is so constant and powerful that even when things go wrong and hopelessness comes to rob us of our joy in Christ He comes and speaks truth into our lives. That He is greater than our greatest mistakes and if we will return to Him, He will restore and continue to bless us and the world around us.

Jesus came into this world to serve. He came to pour out His favour upon all who would come to Him, upon all who would allow the King of Kings to serve them. As we seek to embody the serving attitude of Christ we must know that serving is not a quick fix strategy for business growth. Rather it is a Kingdom attitude that becomes part of the fabric of who we are as followers of Jesus. That as He serves us we go and serve others whilst returning regularly to be cleansed by Him who came to serve us.

John 12: 13- 50
In this passage we ask who Jesus is, what He does and will do for us? We also ask how to respond? For Jesus is the one who raises the dead in order to eat with them and He is still doing it today as He always has.
As you listen to today’s talk imagine your with Jesus at the meal, what would you ask Him? How would you respond to a clear act of worship as we see from Mary?

The picture above is a powerful image of Gods grace breaking through the storm. Yet this is not just a picture it is a reality for the one who follows Jesus day by day. Tonight’s talk from the end of John 11 shows God breaking into a meeting of those intent on murdering His Son Jesus. Not to challenge them but to prophesy through the high priest the message of the cross of Jesus Christ. “You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish.” God is still doing it today, breaking into our storms and doughts to bless and help and save us. So as we listen tonight ask God to speak into your situation. John 11:50.

Jesus came to Lazarus in Bethany. It looked like He had come too late, Mary and Martha are in the cycle of grief but in Jesus there is still hope. Today that is still true, for when things are out of sync in life we have a God who is able to bring it back together. Not in the way it was but by transforming what has happened into new stories of Grace and freedom.

Jesus has so many good things for each of us if we would only open the gifts that Jesus has given us and receive them fully. Yet this simple thing can sometimes be so hard. Yet today is a new day, the Winter has gone the Spring has come and we can open all that God has given us embracing it fully. Why? Because we are the sheep of His pasture and we know His voice.

John 10: 22-42
Jesus has been doing His Fathers Will in full view of all who want to see. The poor and needy flock to Him. The religious get nervous around Him, even jealous. Then there are those who are so impacted they follow Him. Today we meet such a man who was blind but then could see. Why? How? Jesus came and did Gods will. He refused to be concerned about the sabbath day again even though this has got Him into trouble before. Why? Because His Father has called Him to meet this mans need today not tomorrow. And on this day He restores His sight in more ways than one and God never changes and He is looking to meet us today and show us His goodness and grace and open our eyes and then use us for His glory.

Who, what, where, when, why?
Tonight as we consider the life and work of Jesus we asked these questions. Who is Jesus, what did He do, where did He work, when did He do it, why did He do it? From these questions we see that His life and work is a question of authority. For He bought the authority of Heaven with Him into this world that we through faith might experience and know and live under it. An authority that undoes the power of sin and gives us life in His name.
To answer these things properly we ask a crucial question tonight.
Who’s authority are we living under?

The Story of Jesus is one of a hero coming into our troubled world to rescue individuals in need of His grace. The Story of the woman caught in adultery reveals this amazing truth so perfectly. As Jesus the Great I Am, who gave the Law written by God on tablets of stone to Moses the leader of Israel. Stooped down besides this accused lady and wrote in the sand. Transforming the words that had been spoken over her by her accusers and giving her a new language of grace that she was now loved and protected a daughter of God. How could Jesus do this because He paid the price of her sin and as she was the one who gave the law He is the only one who can cancel the debt of the law.

Jesus invites us all to come to Him and find rest. For those who accept His invitation He promises the gift of the Holy Spirit who will come and live in us as a sign that we belong to God. However Jesus also shows us that as He does the will of the Father in the world so we will do the will of the Son of God (Jesus) in the world today. In this way streams of living water will flow to those we encounter giving them the gift of life. How? Because Jesus came to save and restore.

As we follow Jesus through the story of Johns Gospel we see Him doing many physical miracles and wonders amongst the people. Yet we also see His desire to teach the people what the signs point to. That the physical revelation must go deeper into our hearts to create a spiritual transformation. The lesson of the feeding of the 5000 and Jesus walking on water from Johns perspective is that Jesus is the one initiating this compassionate work in order to teach the people be they in a crowd or a small group or an individual. That His people can trust Him with their lives.

Jesus healing at the pool of Bethesda has led to persecution from the religious and in this passage we hear the first part of His defense. A defense that refuses to lose sight of who He truly is the Son of God. A defense that declares the nature of His work. That He is working in partnership with His Heavenly Father. For Jesus only does what He see’s the father doing. Therefore as followers of Christ we also need to look to Jesus and out of our relationship with Him seek to serve where He is already working for this is the nature of our discipleship John 5 verse 16-30

When we live life as a competition we can miss what people are really saying to us. We perceive honest questions as challenges to who we are or what we do. We also see that when Jesus impacts our lives there will always be people to try and pull us back down to earth.
The answer to these realities is to stay focused upon Jesus who has come to set us free.

Imagine the scene; A woman coming to the same well she’s come to for a good while. Coming in secret in shame in fear of what others are saying. Encounters Jesus who is about to transform her life. The transformation is so great that she ends up leaving the water jar she came with and went back to her town boldly telling them that she has found the Christ. Not only this she then leads them to Jesus where they come to believe that He is the Saviour of the World.
John 4: 39-42. A story of transformation and new freedom. A story that can be our story if we will only let go and let God take the weight we are carrying. For you can only receive from God if you order empty your hands of what your holding.
The woman at the well is such a well known story of an encounter with Jesus. In today’s sermon you will experience the story in a fresh way as you hear it retold as if we were there looking in on what was happening. So put your pens down and listen in to this wonderful story.

If John 3:16 is the summit of the mountain. The crowning truth of God’s love that He sent His only Son to save us and give us eternal life. Then what makes up the mountain as it’s paths that lead us to the beautiful summit. The Answer; real life both Christ life on earth and all that He did. Meeting with our lives and all that we have done. For at the cross ournlives meet with Christ. Nicodemus’ questions unlock the great truth of what life in Christ is like.
John chapter 2 opens up with the famous story of Jesus transforming water into wine. Yet there are two groups at the wedding. One group taste the gift wth no knowledge of the one who created it. The other group see the creator of the gift at work amongst them but don’t taste the gift. In this sermon we hear the call to be those who value the presence of Jesus more than the gifts He brings.
